  A brilliant day spent in Mindo!

Roads were not the best quality at some stages as expected in rural Ecuador so just keep this in mind if you are not a great traveler in the car.
Our first stop was to a small butterfly farm where we saw lots of different species and had the life cycle explained to us. We then went onto the bird watching place which was our absolute highlight of the day. We sat with nectar and fed dozens of hummingbirds by hand. An unforgettable experience and wonderful photo opportunities. We even saw a toucan fly past! The tour continued to the forest area where we were offered the opportunity to zip line however we passed on this and went on to the waterfall. We trekked down to the waterfall which was very beautiful! Many steps down but was achievable by most! Probably took around 45 mins each way to walk it. Take swimwear if you’d like to take a dip in the water at the bottom! There is a small pool / area there to enjoy. The day that we went was very warm and humid due to the lower altitude in the forest - we did regret not wearing shorts / lighter clothing so do consider this too! Next we stopped for some lunch at a local restaurant - our guides paid for us to try some local food! Final stop was to Yumbos chocolate where we learnt about Ecuadorian Cocoa and the chocolate making process. We tasted many varieties and had the chance to buy some too! Delicious! Highly recommend this day tour and our wonderful hosts for making our day so interesting and fun! We highly recommend booking this tour if visiting Quito!

The hike from the car park to the glacier is challenging but rewarding although the weather wasn’t great. Also Pedro told us lots of interesting details about Cotopaxi and Ecuador. Given the high altitude and varying conditions, I'd recommend a private guide over a bigger group so you can adjust however works best for you. We also got to stop at various spots for souvenirs and a wonderful meal after the hike. I would caution to maybe adjust a few days to altitude before heading out to Cotapaxi, if you're coming from sea level.

On our holiday in Ecuador we decided to book a day trip to Mindo with Real Dreams which was amazing. We loved our... read more day so much that we decided to book a second day tour with this fantastic company to Otavalo.

We were picked up promptly from our hotel and driven safely to all stops. We tasted traditional biscuits, went to a view point, visited Otavalo market, had lunch, went to a waterfall, saw a stunning lake and finished in a small village with traditional leather goods before being dropped back to Quito.

We had such a great time and felt we got to see so much! We learnt a lot from our helpful guides and were able to ask many questions. We loved both our trips with real dreams and thanks to Carolina and Pedro for making it so memorable.

Quilotoa with it’s emerald colored lagoon was breathtaking. Baños was great... read more fun with adventure activities such as Extreme Swing and zip lining; and visits to amazing waterfalls. Cotopaxi National Park offers spectacular views of the volcano and opportunity to hike up to the base camp (very demanding but rewarding for those not acclimated to high elevation hikes). Overall a tremendous tour with a great guide (Pedro). Pedro was knowledgeable and a welcoming ambassador. He shared his beautiful country and his attitude added to the experience.

  Magical Mindo - This was a magical day that started with the drive to the Mindo highlands. Even though it took some time to clear the city for me this was awesome... read more to see so much of what is culturally very different to Australia and have time to chat with my guide Luis and driver Jimmy about life in Ecuador. Our first stop was to visit hummingbirds which memory will stay with me - what magical creatures! I opted to take the walk around the trails with the owner and was treated to seeing so many other birds including toucans but also was delighted by the information given on the flora and being able to taste the fruits that the birds eat. More magic followed with butterflies, the cooling waters at the waterfall, the fun trip across with the tarabita, the wonderful traditional Ecuadorian lunch and finishing with the chocolate tour where from the first second you are hit in the face with the most incredible aromas. The day was truly made though by the company of Luis and Jimmy who were able to provide me not just with information but made the trip for a solo visitor comfortable and fun - the Queen karaoke on the drive back was awesome - thank you

We started early in the morning and had a nice ride to Cotopaxi. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t in our favor and... read more we didn’t get to see the volcano but we still had a great hike around the pond.
Quilotoa was beautiful and we were given time to explore it on our own before we had lunch and headed back to the city. The guide didn’t walk down with us and we soon understood why as the way back up took all our strength. The altitude really hits and it’s super steep. All in all it was a nice tour and perfect for people with little time at hand. I highly recommend the tour! We had great fun and saw many cute alpacas along the way!
